SGG PLANITHERM

The glass makes the difference

When it comes to replacing your windows, the glass you choose can make a big difference.

Glass will typically make up 70% of your window, and it’s at the heart of controlling the flow of natural light, the level of safety and security, and of heat retention. It can even help protect furniture against fading.

Insist on Planitherm glass

Our modern glazing can maximize your home’s comfort, for a difference you may not ‘see’ but will certainly feel. Whether you’re looking for warmth, a peaceful night’s sleep or to enjoy a sun-filled room without overheating, Planitherm has the perfect high-performance glass for you.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

With GSW, energy efficiency comes as standard.

A special coating on our glass helps stop heat escaping, so you’ll use less energy to keep your home warm. Our Energy Standard and Planitherm glazing captures and makes use of the warmth from natural daylight, while Planitherm helps limit and control it – ideal for very sunny rooms.

ENHANCED SECURITY

Helps protect your family from break-ins and vandalism.

Our high-security transparent layer on Planitherm glass makes them much tougher to break through than standard, unlaminated glass. Used in an approved window frame, they’re designed to meet the official police security initiative ‘Secured by Design’ standard, so you’ll feel safer and more secure in your home.

NOISE REDUCTION

Make your home a peaceful respite from the world outside.

Perfect for bedrooms to ensure a good night’s sleep, a built-in acoustic layer keeps exterior noise exactly where it belongs – outside. If you live on a busy road or close to other disturbing sounds, noise control glazing should be on your list.

FURNITURE FADE PROTECTION

Keep your furniture looking newer for longer.

Prolonged exposure to ultra-violet light from the sun will contribute to your furniture and curtains fading over time. Our hidden layer of protection on Planitherm glass blocks out 99% of the sun’s UV rays. Think of it as sun-block for your sofa, curtains and carpets!

REDUCE OVERHEATING

Perfect balance of light and warmth.

Rooms with lots of glass will give you a great view, but the warmth from natural daylight can make it uncomfortably hot on sunny days. Our Planitherm glass has a special coating designed to keep out heat from the sun’s rays, for a comfortable, bright environment and greater control of your internal temperature. It’s particularly suited for south- and west-facing rooms with sunny aspects, or larger glazed areas such as bi-fold and patio doors.

PLANITHERM TOTAL+ meets the durability requirements of class C of European standards EN 1096 and is CE marked.

* Light and solar performance according to EN 410

** Centre-pane U-values have been rounded in accordance with EN 673

For Window Energy Ratings simulators should calculate whole window U-values from first principles using normal surface emissivity (e = 0.05)

Handling & Processing

SGG PLANITHERM TOTAL+ must always be assembled into a double or triple glazed unit. The coating is generally placed on face 3 (and 5) of the unit, though it is possible to place the coating on face 2 without affecting the U-value. Appearance may vary slightly, so it is important to maintain consistent coating positioning throughout a particular façade.

DESCRIPTION

U-value of 1.0 W/m.K finally reached!

SGG PLANITHERM is a range of high performance low-emissivity products, incorporating the very latest advancements in thermally insulating glass coating technology.

Renowned for its extremely neutral appearance, SGG PLANITHERM very effectively reflects long-wave heat radiation back into a room, thereby minimizing heat loss through a window while also maximizing solar heat gain and natural light transmission.

SGG PLANITHERM ONE is a product of the SGG PLANITHERM glass range.

It is a high performance low-E coated glass, to be processed into an insulating glass unit. It is made of clear float glass on which a thin transparent coating has been deposited by magnetron sputtering under vacuum. The coating exhibits the lowest emissivity (0.01) industrially accessible; it reflects the far infrared radiation thus limiting the heat transfer by radiation.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

SGG PLANITHERM ONE, low-E coated glass, can be used in all insulating glass units, for new construction or refurbishment works:

  • Windows in domestic buildings
  • Conservatories
  • Windows and façades in non residential buildings

It can be incorporated in all types of frames.

ADVANTAGE

Once assembled in a double-glazed unit, SGG PLANITHERM ONE offers the best thermal insulation for a DGU in the world.

• Money savings in all climates
• Great comfort level:
– No cold area around windows
– Maximal use of living areas
– Great reduction of condensation levels on the inner pane
• High light transmission
• Large architectural possibilities (very neutral appearance)
• Environmentally-friendly thanks to the CO2 emission reduction
• Safety function available thanks to the “to be tempered” version SGG PLANITHERM ONE II

The most appropriate method for installing and assembling double-glazing depends on several factors, including: the size of the glass, exposure to external stresses and the type of frame or façade system.

The installation and fixing techniques that are used for the glass must conform to the recommendations of current national standards and regulations.

The positioning and fixing of the glass, the dimensions of channels and the permitted deflection for the frames for double glazed units are not specific to SGG PLANITHERM products.

Note

The glass must be toughened if the glass unit is installed between 2 zones with a temperature difference exceeding certain critical values. Changes in glass temperature are influenced by a number of factors including: climatic conditions, height of the channels, shadows cast from a neighboring building, the proximity of a heat source or the use of blackout blinds.

PROCESSING CAPABILITIES

SGG PLANITHERM ONE should always be processed into an insulating glass unit. The coating along the edges is removed then placed inside the cavity, on face 2 or 3. It can be tempered (in the case of the post-temperable version) or laminated prior to its manufacture in IGU.

PLANITHERM ONE & ONE II BROCHURE

DESCRIPTION

Being a product of the SGG PLANITHERM glass range, SGG PLANITHERM 4S and SGG PLANITHERM 4S EVO are manufactured on a magnetron coater. It is made of high quality SGG PLANILUX clear float glass on which a coating has been deposited by magnetron sputtering under vacuum. The resultant microscopically thin, metallic coating very effectively reflects long and short wave heart radiation for combined low solar factor and thermal insulating (low-E) properties.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

SGG PLANITHERM 4S and SGG PLANITHERM 4S EVO can be used for windows and façades in residential or non-residential buildings (schools, hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, hospitals, sports centers).

Its neutral appearance makes it particularly suited to vertical glazing for year round comfort, whilst maximizing the transmission of natural light.

ADVANTAGE

  • In wintertime

– Energy savings due to reduced heating requirement

– Reduced condensation on the inner pane

– Improved comfort due to reduced colds spots and drafts: no cold areas around windows

  • In summertime

– Improved comfort due to reduced overheating

– Cost reduction where there is air conditioning

  • In all seasons

– Environmentally friendly thanks to the CO2 emission reduction
